Subject: 21765/SupportFundsForTVA/ChickamaugaLock Date: Fri, 25 Oct 1996 08:25:12 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 21765 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CONTINUATION OF APPROPRIATED FUND PROGRAMS FOR THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY. WHEREAS, the Chattanooga City Council has previously approved Resolution No. 21410 (adopted June 10, 1997) supporting the building of a new Chickamauga Lock and encouraging the TVA's Congressional Caucus and Congress to act in favor of moving forward with detailed engineering studies and funding for the replacement of the lock; and WHEREAS, the President has submitted a budget to Congress which contains a proposed appropriated fund budget for TVA and which includes funds to begin detailed engineering studies for the replacement of the Chickamauga Lock; and WHEREAS, the U.S. House of Representatives, through the Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, has invited written testimony on the proposed budget as it relates to TVA; and WHEREAS, the loss of appropriated fund programs for TVA would have significant immediate and long term adverse impact on the Tennessee Valley region; and WHEREAS, the TVA Retirees Association, representing approximately 3,400 retirees in the Chattanooga area, has gone on record in support of the continuation of appropriated fund programs for TVA in the current proposed budget; 0C NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That the Chattanooga City Council hereby expresses its support for the continuation of appropriated fund programs for TVA and strongly encourages inclusion of such funds in the current federal budget; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Council Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to The Honorable Joseph M. McDade, Chair, House Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, to each member of the TVA Congressional Caucus, and to all other interested parties as deemed appropriate.
